"A skeuomorph is a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues (attributes) from structures that were inherent to the original." It's neither here nor there, but I was amused by the concept when I first read about it.

This EP contains sounds from the same sessions that produced my "Catastrophic Forgetting" album — these were early pieces with the same gear setup trying out different sonic possibilities. I didn't feel that any of the source pieces cohered as the sort of longform piece I usually produce, but there were some cool moments scattered within them.

I wasn't sure how to isolate those moments, so I tried a couple different things. I set myself to editing them down more rigourously than I usually do, but I wasn't satisfied with what I had. So instead, I sent a whole whack of audio to Jakob Rehlinger, asking him if he could extract whatever he thought was interesting. That produced the long "suite" piece.

When I came back to this material while I was editing the "Catastrophic Forgetting" album, I guess I was removed enough that I could cut with a greater intensity, and I was able to reduce long tracks to just a minute or three. And I found those fragments contrasted nicely with Jakob's piece, which gave this EP its final form.
